Training Before You Can Start a Human Study
Training Component
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR): There are a number of web-based tutorials that will fulfill this requirement. Most take only 1½ to 2 hours to complete. Once you’ve taken a course, it’ll be good for the rest of your career at OSU. Here are some links.
- CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research Subjects
- National Institutes of Health Course: Protecting Human Research Participants
- Protection of Human Subjects Training Course by Office of Human Research Protections
- Family Health International Research Ethics Training Curriculum
- UCLA Office of Research Integrity RCR Program
After you’ve completed the training, go to the OSU IRB webpage, and fill out the Certification of Education (about halfway down the page) and submit to IRB. They will sign it and send it back to you.
Biological Safety: The biohazard safety training is offered by the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) on the first Thursday of every month at 10:30 am in the Oak Creek Building. Contact Matt Philpott to register. You’ll need to take this course yearly.
Radiation Safety: Radiation safety training is offered by the EHS.
